Biodiesel, because do-it-yourself fuel is cool
28 October 2005Most websites and articles you come across on the topic of biodiesel stress “Save the Planet” or “Independence from Foreign Oil” as major themes. It’s almost as though the same group of people float from website to website on every topic from electric cars or hydrogen fuel cells to solar power or wind energy and every other alternative fuel and power source in some weird 70’s flashback. Actually, all of those technologies are very neat from a technical standpoint but let’s keep the rhetoric to a minimum and focus on the facts.
Biodiesel isn’t some enviro-religion you have to join, it’s just a neat technology to learn about and play with and make work for you. Technologies that attract a lot of movie star support, smell like hype to me. Everybody starts wearing natural fabrics woven from hemp and puts flowers in their hair, … give me a break!
We’re different here. As I noted in my welcome message, biodiesel probably won’t solve the whole planet’s energy problems but it may help you and me. We’re looking at biodiesel from the tech side and more than a little for the fun factor. You can’t refine your own gasoline but you can brew your own biofuel and that’s a big deal. Do it yourself fuel, … by itself, that gets me interested. How about you?
The Biodiesel Report will grow steadily and if we do it right, we might learn a few things and have a little fun. We’ll point you toward the companies and products we find that seem to work and if we see something that doesn’t make sense, we’ll mention that, too. We’ll ask you to jump in and add to the discussion because there are a lot of good ideas out and about and if we put them in one place, you just never know what we might come up with.
Hmm … this post sounds like a second welcome message and in a way it is but we needed to point out how and why we’re different. That way you won’t be disappointed if we’re not what you were looking for. There are plenty of the other sites, everyone singing and saving planets, I figured we needed one like this. Stay tuned.

Hopefully the dangers of operating those “Appleseed” reactors will be covered. They are, for the most part, a bomb waiting for a place to happen. But yes, MAKING your own biodiesel is a LOT of fun - and it is easy.
